Alternative Medicine as "the new thing"
This is a ridiculous concept for me! Using the earth to heal has been around since the beginning of man (and WOMAN). Every cultural has natural remedies and many still utilize their natural remedies. I can't stand how people think this is "New Age" or something like that. It's TRADITIONAL.

I hear you. And what they also don't bother to point out is that certain "alternative" practices have been mainstream for decades. If you're old enough, you may remember a time when getting a massage was still weird and only something professional sports stars did. Now, high school teams have massage tables.
And another reason I get riled by the whole "new age" label is that herbs (my specialty) can be very scientific. There is not a day go by that some study on some herb, spice or medicinal plant doesn't cross my desk. And these aren't in weird, little self-published pamphlets, either. They're scientific studies, many done in legitimate universities, published in mainstream medical journals.
I know there's a lot of bunk out there but to have to constantly explain that I'm not into some weird religion that sacrifices cute little animals just because I work with herbs . . . well, I think you get my point.

I agree with you both, my great grandmother was a medicine woman in Meadow Fork, NC and people would come from all around for her help. She was a midwife, too and her babies lived unlike those birthed by others. I still use many of her remedies. I am not the type to follow blindly, so I have experimented with OTCs, and almost always the herbs work better.

It's a marketing ploy. For the ones that responded to this threads, we remember things that were used when we were young because our parents or grandparents used all the old remedies. With the newer generations, they have no idea because there is no one to teach them what works just as well.

Alternative Medicine
I agree, alternative medicine is not "New Age!" Although I do not consider it to be 'traditional' but rather an alternative to conventional medical practices. Integrative medicine is where both alternative and traditional medicine are used as a complement to each other.
Alternative therapies are dependent upon the body’s natural ability to heal itself so it does not rely on prescription medicine, surgery, and other traditional medical practices. Also, the advantages of conventional practices and procedures are recognized when essential.
The root cause of the health issue is always approached first and then the entire person is looked at (this includes your mind, emotions, body, and spirit). Signs of illness are not just covered up as can be the case with conventional medicine.
I've been using alternative medicine therapies for over 20 years, and I wholeheartedly endorse it as a legitimate way to help your body heal.

There's no great way of medication than alternative medicine. You can have the same benefits other prescription drugs can provide, and less the side effects. It's a good thing people are now opting for this kind of approach, rather than spending on some drugs, you can save a lot and get more from alternative meds.

I agree with all of you. I now belong to the new generation but I am from Asia so I really don't consider alternative medicine as the "new generation". But I agree that this is effective but is considered an "old school" by others.

There is a new term used by some in the industry including DR. Buttar and it's called "Advanced Medicine" heard of that one? It has nothing to do with Pharmaceuticals though ; it may just be another term for Alternative Medicine...
