Default How Does Rheumatoid Arthritis Start

I was wondering how the symptons of rheumatoid arthritis manifest. For the past few months, I have been having discomfort in my knees. The pain is minimal, and I can still live a normal life. However, in the back of my mind, I always wonder if there is a greater reason behind this pain. The reason this bothers me is because my mother has rheumatoid and suffers greatly from it, so I know that I am genetically predisposed to it. If anyone on here suffers from RA, please detail how the disease manifested?

Also, I hear that a bacterial or viral infection usually starts the disease? Did you find that to be true? Because, for me, these joint symptons worsened after a salmonella poisoning that I had a few months ago.

The cause of rheumatoid arthritis is unknown. Even though infectious agents such as viruses, bacteria, and fungi have long been suspected, none has been proven as the cause. The cause of rheumatoid arthritis is a very active area of worldwide research. It is believed that the tendency to develop rheumatoid arthritis may be genetically inherited. It is also suspected that certain infections or factors in the environment might trigger the activation of the immune system in susceptible individuals. This misdirected immune system then attacks the body's own tissues. This leads to inflammation in the joints and sometimes in various organs of the body, such as the lungs or eyes.
