Post back Pain that shoots down to the legs ... Spinal Stenosis

My mom was having an issue with her legs for almost 12 years where she keeps getting these spasms and incredible pain in the lower extremities of her legs. I took her to so many doctors up until recently she was diagnosed with a back problem caused by spinal stenosis: A condition due to narrowing of the spinal cord causing nerve pinching which leads to persistent pain in the buttocks, limping, lack of feeling in the lower extremities, and decreased physical activity. She is now on a Lumbar Epidural Injection every 6 moths and she feels much better. if you or a loved one is having similar issue, an MRI can show this anomaly really easy.

Hope this helps,
Mohammed

Ouch. That must be very painful, but can the doctors and / or hospital do something to fix it instead of giving a treatment every 6months which oyu have in your back and is painful to have it done?

I have a similar problem as well, though it hasn't been diagnosed as 'Stenosis'.
What I have been told is that I suffer from Degeneration of bones caused by poor posture (given that I'm 6'3", and need to bend even at my dinner table).
The other reason I was given was that I suffer from 'shift disc' where the disc shifted out, and pressed against the spinal cord. This causes pain to radiate up, and/or down my body at random intervals of random intensity.
To add to this, I'm only Eighteen. Ouch.

i have seen my uncle in the same problem when his back pains and he could not sit ,stand or anything else he just cant do anything then he was advised by doctor to use lternative treatments are those that are not part of standard treatment. For spinal stenosis, such treatments include chiropractic treatment and acupuncture. More research is needed on the value of these treatments. Your doctor may suggest alternative treatments in addition to standard treatments.

Lumbar epidurals are the fastest acting treatments for Spinal stenosis. they are painful when done - but after a little while the patient realises that they help a lot and are willing to go through it happily.
Alternate therapies include homeopathy and ayurvedic massages

Sorry for your mother friend. It is very difficult to get releived from these types of back problems. They may certainly lead you to worse problems in life.My uncle had back problem past few years and he visited many doctors but no cure was found. But my cousin, who is doctor, gave him few exercise tips and follow some instructions in daily routine to act with alertness in walking and sleeping. After few months his back problem was solved and he got relief.
