At what age should you get them regularly? Are they effective in detecting colon cancer?
What exactly do they do when they do a colonoscopy?
I know that it is recommended especially for men, but I am not sure what exactly they do.

    

I believe its a type of endoscopic examination of the colon that uses a CCD camera or a fiber optic camera on a flexible tube passed through the anus. It provides a visual diagnosis (e.g. ulceration, polyps) and will give way for a biopsy or removal of suspected lesions.

If there's a sudden hemorrhage in your bowel movement, colonoscopy is advised to determine whether there's cancer forming.
