Default Men Who Drink Alcohol On a Regular Basis At Risk For Several Types of Cancer

A new Canadian study out of McGill University has some unique findings about men, alcohol consumption, and cancer. They surveyed 3,600 Canadian men between the ages of 35-70 and found that men who averaged at least a drink a day had an increase risk for several types of cancer over men who only drank alcohol occasionally or not at all. The types of cancer included were of the esophagus, prostate, colon, lungs, pancreas, liver and stomach. The researchers did note that only beer and hard liquor and not wine were linked to the increases risks in men.

The study also noted that the more a man drank over his lifetime, the more heightened risk he had for the disease. So if a man averaged two drinks a day, his risk was higher than a man who averaged only one drink a day. Also, it showed that men who have been drinking for more years of their life also had an increased risk.

Previous studies had shown that a drink a day was actually healthy for the body, especially the heart. This study is going against that in the fact that beer and hard liquor are not healthy drinks for everyday use.

This is just one study that has come out and researchers say it will take more than this one study to prove that beer and alcohol consumption on a regular basis increases a man’s chances for getting cancer.
