Default Rewards for Good Behavior

I have been thinking about this, and wanted to ask you other parents out there.
Do you reward your child for good behavior? For example they did not get in trouble all week at day care, were great at the doctor, or at the grocery store?
I am torn about this. On one hand it should be just learned behavior, and on the other side maybe it gives them incentive to be good?
If you do reward them, then what do you reward them with?

I personal for not really give a reward for being good. I agree that it should be learned. As far as a reward, I do not say hey if you are good I will give you something or buy you something but if they are good or do something nice I try to encourage it by making a fuss and letting them know that they did do a good thing and that I am proud of them. That being said my oldest not yet 4 and I would like to avoid the reward thing if possible. But only time will tell.

I agree with jhall about making a fuss when they do well. I was always afraid of spoiling my kids that I was pretty rigid about some things, but now that they are teenagers, I wish I had 'spoiled' them a bit more, and spent more time hugging them and less time making sure they were perfect.

Thank you ladies for your advice. I think I am going to start steering toward the praise. With my daughter it seems to help. The other night she dressed herself in PJ’s which didn’t even come close to matching but we made a big deal out of it and now she likes to dress her self. Thank you again.
