Default Dealing with falls and bruises

Often we find that mothers tend to get very agitated when their children fall and hurt themselves, specially if it is their first child.
Doctors believe that if you make too much of a fuss about the bruise or cut, then the child also learns to pay too much attention to them.
Deal with it calmly, clean it up, apply a little antiseptic, and often a small plaster like Band-Aid will do the job. If it is bleeding a lot, put some ice on it, and then take him to the clinic or the doctor.
Children are quick to recover - so give nature a chance.

You got a great post there. You are definitely right. If parents tend to panic, the child will also panic and this will lead to infection of the bruise which will eventually lead to scars. It's not good for a child to get a scar this early.

Falling of children is natural only they fall and after that they stand also this is how they use to learn how to walk .If parents react much that there child fall and he is hurt its also natural but extensive care leads to softness of a child specially male child

Remind me of an old saying that when your first child hurts himself, you call the doctor, you put him to bed and watch him all day. When your third child falls - you put a Band-Aid and tell him to go out and play.
Basically you learn to cope better and deal with these in a relaxed manner.

Children will learn only if they fall.
I remember when i rode my cycle for first time.I fell three times. Each time i did,my father would come and rub the spot with a wet cloth and I was ON again.Did hurt but i learned cycling too.

Bruises can be caused by thin blood, if you take aspirine for instance, you can easly be bruised within next 24 hrs. Those who are taking heparin, plavix or cumidine must watch their blood thiness.

I use an all natural salve I made myself for cuts and bruises. It contains herbs that have antifungal and antiseptic properties. This way I know what exactly is going on his skin and can be assured it is all natural as well.

I agree that not too much of a fuss should be made about a fall or a bruise or even if it is bleeding. The best thing is to stay calm and see if the child has done any real damage before getting to concerned. I believe in the rule that if there is not blood not to be too concerned unless there is sever swelling or it is a head injury. But as for skinned knees and elbows this is a part of life and if you kids are a clumbsy as myself then the sooner they learn to deal with it the better. I have one daughter that just stands up and goes on and one that requires attention for every bump and scrap. So sometimes regardless of what you do they seem to need attention.

My child is my first and only, and since the day she could walk we always say “Its okay brush it off”. This seems to have worked because now anytime she falls she goes “Oh NO”, stands up and brushes her knees off. It doesn’t matter how bad she fell, she wants to brush it off and then have mommy kiss it.

I get fussed at by the grandparents who don’t agree, but to me I would rather her get up and brush it off then have a complete melt down because she fell on the safe carpet and doesn’t even have a scratch. I could be wrong though.
