Default Kidney Stones in Kids

Hi,

A friend's son was diagnosed with kidney stones this week. He is just 6 years old. However, his father also has kidney stones so guess there is a genetic strain. I learnt soemthing surprising that excess calcium can cause kidney stones. Now my question is how can one prevent it, especially in kids?
I'm worried cos I give my toddler calcium supplements since she is teething and also, she drinks almost 500 ml milk everyday, along with regualr food.
Does anyone have any info/inputs about this?
Thanks!

My mom just had over 22 kidney stones taken out of her. I did some research and read that it can be hereditary but you also get them if you don't drink enough water. So make sure your child drinks plenty of water. My mom drinks almost no water so I know that's how she got hers. I also read that people who live in very hot areas are more prone to kidney stones because they get dehydrated easier.
You can get uric acid stones if you eat too much meat and of course the calcium ones form if your body doesn't use all the calcium.

Hi Healthy Momma,

Thank you so much for sharing this. You know what, even my toddler just doesn't drink water.. She drinks milk and juices but almost no water and since we live in a hot climate, I guess I've gotta do something about this.
Thanks again!
