Default Cold Remedies

I have heard so many cold remedies over the years, but I am curious if any of them actually work.

What cold remedy do you use? Does it actually work? What symptom does it relieve?

My favorite one is putting vapor rub on my feet and putting thick socks on. It keeps me from coughing as much. It also helps my daughter with croup symptoms.

I actually skip the cold medications if I get a cold. I just don't find they work at all for me! So, instead I'll get comfy under a warm blanket, watch some movies and eat chicken noodle soup with crackers. I also really like the Cold and Flu tea from Yogi brand teas. That, with a bit of honey.

Hi,

You have shared nice information on cold remedies.

Lemons are a resourceful option among home remedies for cold. Mix a portion of lemon juice, along with some honey and hot water, and drink, as a type of tea.

I am a fan of Vitamin D3, zinc, and vitamin C (see my thread on Vitamin D). I find this really seems to work.

Also, I love Nyquil . Nyquil sleep rocks. Mucinex is also good, but I have asthma so maybe not everyone needs that for a cold.

I tend to avoid decongestants. I couldn't take them when pregnant and didn't notice a difference! So I decided they were a waste of money. However, if I get sick enough I would probably take something. I used to double up with both Claritin D and Sudafed which is actually not recommended--but my doctor okayed it for me since I get so congested from the asthma.

i would not recommend this as i just do this with my mom suggesting this kind of remedy for my colds but i did get well. my mom told me to drink hot tea with lemon extract on it as often as i want and as substitute for coffee since i drink coffee a lot. she also let me take MX Allergen and Sinus Formula to support my immune system. i often eat fruits that are rich in vitamin C and i drink water a lot.

Usually when I get a cold, it is connected to my sinus problem.

So I usually irrigate my nose two or three times a day. I either use a saline solution or a nasal spray.

Default Cold prevention

A great new way to prevent yourself from catching a cold is C-Spray. It's a vitamin C supplement that is portable and really easy to take. You just spray under your tongue, hold for 30 seconds, and that's it. It has the same amount of vitamin C as 20 oranges. I swear by this stuff and use it all the time. Check them out on Facebook - C-Spray is made by Marz Spray (that's the name of their page as well)! They are having a couple contests right now too! You could win $5000 for shooting a commercial and posting it online.

Lemons, honey, vitamin C and zinc are the most popular ones.

Default Fight A Cold with All-Natural Vitamins and Nutritional Supplements

Vitamin C
Vitamin C is an antioxidant, which neutralizes unstable free radicals and prevents them from damaging your DNA. This is the most frequent cause of virus infection and bacterial invasions, because your cells are unable to fight off the thousands of microorganisms that interact with your body everyday. A recent study published that the concentration of vitamin c in the body is diminished from stress and infection, so supplementing with this bright vitamin will ward off potential infections. A secondary study discovered that when supplementing with vitamin C in a group, there were elevated levels of serum that contribute to the strength of the immune system. In a group without vitamin C supplements, there was no change in their serum levels. Nature's Way Vitamin C 1000 with Rose Hips is a great supplement that includes rose hips, another source of vitamin C.

Probiotics
Surprisingly, Harvard studies are pointing immune defense in a new direction: your gut. Scientific evidence is proving that an abundance of good bacteria promotes immune health, because the health of your gut affects the production of protective T cells and reparative tissues. When your intestinal tract is flourishing with productivity, so are your chances of staying illness-free. Integrative Therapeutics Probiotic Pearls - Pro Flora Immune is a specially-formulated supplement that keeps the probiotics from being destroyed by stomach acid. NewChapter Probiotic All-Flora is a whole foods based supplement that is gluten and dairy free.

Zinc
Zinc is involved in over 300 of your body's growth and organ functions; DNA creation and wound healing are two of them. In addition, the regulation of your immune cells is directly influenced by the amount of zinc you can pull from. Even taking zinc while you are under the weather has shown to shorten the length of cold and flu symptoms. NOW Elderberry and Zinc is a daily supplement that will contribute to your health and wellness by pairing zinc with elderberry, a known natural supplement for the immune system.

Multivitamin
If you have not incorporated a multivitamin into your diet, preventing dozens of infections can be the first reason to start. Balance your diet with an abundance of strengthening vitamins and minerals, and you are assisting the hundreds of processes each organ, muscle, and cell produces to keep you healthy. Allergy Research Group EPD Basic MultiVitamin contains a powerful collection of your daily requirements for health and wellness.

I use Zycam if I feel a cold coming on - works brilliantly to blunt the severity and length of the cold - and I use airborne (effervescent tablets) for a quick boost to my immune system when I'm travelling on an airplane or know I will be exposed to sick people. They both work well if used in the right situations.
