Default Type 2 Diabetes Complications - Why You Need To Take Care of Your Diabetes

It can be a real shock being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. You may have no idea what it exactly is or that possible medical complications can come from diabetes. The best way to understand more is to talk to your doctor about getting your diabetes under control. If you do not take of your diabetes and change your lifestyle there are many complications that can come from the disease, such as:

Increased risk for a heart attack or stroke - You are twice as likely to suffer from a heart attack or stroke than a person who does not have diabetes. High blood gluclose levels lead to increased deposits of fatty materials in the blood vessels, which affects the blood flow and can lead to hardening of the arteries and ultimately a heart attack or stroke.

Nerve Damage - A frightening fact is that 60%-70% of people with diabetes have neuropathy (disorder of the nerves). These neuropathies can cause numbness or tingling of the body, loss of sensation for parts of the body, pain, and changes in the functions of the organs.

Eye Disease- If diabetes gets bad enough, people can go blind from the disease or have several different vision problems.

Kidney Disease- Diabetes can cause kidney failure which means the kidneys are unable to rid the body of waste. Kidney failure is fatal if not treated by dialysis and further a new kidney.

Some other possible medical complications include:
Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Erectile Dysfunction
Gout
Skin complications
Foot complications such as ulcers, loss of circulation and potentially amputation.

Be sure to discuss with your doctor the best way to treat your diabetes as it is a disease that can be fought against and you don’t have to suffer from these complications.

This is very valuable information. My grandmother had Type 2 diabetes and she didn't take very good care of herself. As a result, she experienced heart problems, hypertension, and kidney disease. She was on dialysis for a few years before she passed away--she was only 64.
