Is Diabetes hereditary?
Is Diabetes Hereditary?
I once read an article online that said it 'skips' generations. That Grandmother- Grandson would have it.
Yet, I also heard from a friends' parent (who is a doctor) that it is directly hereditary.
In my family, My Grand father, Grand mother, My aunt (Mothers' sister), and my Fathers' Brother have it.
Does this mean I'm at risk?

The chances are that at some stage you will also have blood sugar problems. It is inherited to some extent - and some types of diabetes are definitely passed down over the generations. Keep getting your blood sugar tested and keep a watch.

As far as I know, there are some cases that Diabetes is hereditary. If your parents have one, there will a a good chance that you will be having one too. But not always.

To add to this, I would also like to add that I am of above average height, and so I have low blood pressure.
Does low blood pressure indicate any sort of relation with blood sugar?
In order to try and 'stay fit' I dropped 30 kilo grams of weight last year :-p

I never heard of it skipping generations. I hope not because that would mean that my son would get it.
My great grandfather had diabetes, my grandfather got it, then my dad got it. My brother hasn't gotten it yet but he's going to get tested because he thinks he might have diabetes. So in my family, it seems only the men are getting it.
I think the best thing for you do to is to exercise and eat a healthy diet. I hear that being in shape helps prevent diabetes. I don't know if that's true but that's what I heard.

It seems to run in families, but no, you don't have to have a family member with diabetes to get it. IF it is, you're more likely to develop the disease whether you take care of yourself or not, sad fact.
Diabetes runs in my family. I've staved it off by eating healthy, exercising and avoiding too much sugar. I still test as 'borderline'.
I used to write extensively on diabetes for a health site and one very good bit of news I came across was a discovery that compounds from cayenne peppers will stimulate production of insulin in the liver. Scientists injected the compound directly to the liver BUT a diet with cayenne (fresh) added to it could possibly reverse signs of diabetes and drop the level of insulin needed!

I do not know if it is genetic, but if you have a family history as with many diseases you are at a greater risk than others. It also depends on the type, 1 or 2. One has to due with your bodies ability to process insulin the other is related to your lifestyle and weight. One you have no control over the other can be helped with proper diet and exercise.

is diabetes hereditary
I think that you should be aware of this disease which is really hereditary. You can do this job very nicely by taking some precautions.
If you are overweight, then you have to reduce it by doing exercise and morning walk because the overbodyweight reduces production and activity of insulin.
Then you have to maintain your daily routine and take proper sleep at night.

Yes. My father has diabetes. My grandfather and some of our relatives has it. So now, I try to keep myself healthy and avoid sweets since I am prone to get diabetes.
