Default How green vegetables may protect the heart

Researchers have discovered a possible reason why green vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower are good for the heart.
Their work suggests a chemical found in the vegetables can boost a natural defence mechanism to protect arteries from disease.
The Imperial College London team hope their work could lead to new dietary treatments to prevent heart problems.
Details appear in Arteriosclerosis Thrombosis and Vascular Biology.

There are always the pro’s and cons though, I mean I could eat cabbage all day to protect my heart but I don’t think people would want to get to close to me for a while!

Thanks so much debbie for sharing. I also know that green vegetables are loaded with folic acid, particularly spinach. One serving of spinach has 40% of your daily folic acid needs. Not only is folic acid vital for a healthy reproductive system, but emerging research shows that it's absolutely necessary for a healthy heart.

And spinach and broccoli and kale are all great sources of folic acid.
