Swine Flu Vaccine
Will you be getting it this year?
I am not sure about if I want to get it or not. I normally get my flu shot annually. Every year it seems like there is a new strand of the flu that the flu vaccine doesn’t prevent. I am beginning to think it is pointless to get a flu vaccine of any kind now. What do you think?

I don't think that my family will get the vacc. In fact, I think that we all had it last year. My daughter (twelve years) was sick and had a 105.7 fever. She kept passing out but my doc just sent her home and told me to give her fluids. Thankfully, she did get better but it took almost a whole extra day to get that fever down. I have never been so scared for her!

At the very least I have one daughter who will get the H1N1 vaccine. Whenever you hear of someone who had died from "swine flu" they always say that that person had "other health complications" as well. I have a daughter that has health issues and not only did her doctor say she needs to get the vaccine, but he said any time she gets a fever (100.4 or above) and a cough, she needs Tamiflu immediately.

Yes, it really sounds like your daughter needs it! I wouldn't take that chance with my daughters if I was in your shoes, either. Does she have to stay away from hospitals and the like, too, to avoid infections?

Wow. I do hope the vacc is out in time. My toddler will be getting it since she is just 18 months old and while she doesn't get a lot of cold and cough, she meets a lot of kids and grownups and I feel it is better to be safe than sorry later. @kbn820, I do hope it comes out soon and that your daughter does get it at the earliest. Best wishes.

Thanks. Her immune system as a whole is doing much better, so the hospital and such aren't suppose to be big risks for her. The problem is that besides being preisposed to lung issues, she has a narrow airway so swollen tonsils or too much phlegm could be enough to compromise her breathing. She has also had heart surgery, which is fine now, but she is at a slightly higher risk for complications with that also.

I am on the fence about the H1N1 vaccine. I have a compromised immune system and my doctor thinks that I should definitely get one (I gave in already to getting a "regular" flu shot) but have you guys seen the videos on youtube with the doctors claiming how dangerous it is? I still have to think about it.

There is not enough information from FDA yet, we don't know what the vaccination might do to the subject. I personally would not recommend it.

Do you guys know where I can get a flu vaccine? Although I will have health insurance pretty soon, I don't have it yet. However, I do have about $500 that I have set aside for health-related expenses until I can buy health insurance.
I just called Walgreens and discovered that they only have seasonal flu shots.
