Tongue resection vs Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty
Here is one I had never come across before... a friend of mine has a son with a genetic disorder that makes him have a large tongue (among other things). It can be difficult to brush his teeth, eat certain foods and when he is sick, breathe.
The boy's doctor said they wanted him to have a tongue rsection (where they take part of his tongue out), while other parents are suggesting that it would be less painful to remove his uvula, tonsils, adenoids, pharynx, and soft pallate... to make more room for the tongue.
I know it is a long shot, but does anyone here have an oppinion or experience with this?
