Default Taking care of your eyes

What do you do to take care of your eyes? I remember growing up I would read in dim light and my mom always said I was going to ruin my eyesight. Well, as an adult I read a study that found out you can actually strengthen your eyes that way, haha!

Well now I make sure I have a diet rich in Omega 3's and beta carotene.

I started recently having some eye issues in one of my eyes. Long story short-I have no health insurance, let alone vision insurance. When I went for my eye exam, the eye doc gave me some advice, and that was to take flax seed oil everyday and that will help my eye health-especially dry eyes. I have only just begun this taking the flax seed oil so I can't say if it works or not.

esper_d-it seems you are doing the right thing with your eyes by taking the Omega 3's. I have not tried reading in dim light though-that's one I gotta try.

Default eyes care tips

# Every morning after waking up, fill your mouth with water, close the eyes and sprinkle water on them about 10-15 times. Be sure, as Ayurveda advises, to wake up before sunrise. Do not use hot water to wash the eyes.

# Do not wash the eyes or face when the body is sweating, especially after hard physical exercise or after being exposed to heat and sun.

# Do not stare continuously, specially while looking at long distance objects. Blinking or giving rest to the eyes is good. Do not look at the objects in bright sunlight for a long time. Avoid reading, writing or working with eyes in improper light, or when the light is not sufficient. Take a break and give rest to the eyes if you feel heaviness or tiredness
in the eyes.

# Staying up late in the night and sleeping after sunrise is harmful for the eyes. In case of staying up late, drink a cup of water after each hour or half hour.

# Protect your eyes from dust, smoke, strong sunlight and strong wind. Avoid staying long in such conditions. In case you have to stay, blink often and massage the closed eyes gently with your palms.

There are medications/capsules as seen on tv that could help eye health. Is that really true?

Changing focus every once in a while and take visual breaks after every hour by staring at distant objects will help your eyes focus better.

Wearing sunglasses you can also protect your eyes. Buy a pair of sunglasses with ultraviolet protection to use whenever you are in the sun because UV light damage to the inner structures of the eye, but these sunglasses you can help prevent conditions such as cataracts and muscular degeneration
