Default Scientists close to curing color blindness with gene therapy

Great news for those affected by color blindness. If the test done on adult monkeys can be replicated to humans, a cure for color blindness will finally see the light of day.

Scientists say they are a step closer to curing colour blindness using gene therapy.

A US team were able to restore full colour vision to adult monkeys born without the ability to distinguish between the colours red and green.

Nature journal describes the technique used by the researchers at the University of Washington.

Although more studies are needed, the same treatment may work for humans who are colour blind, experts believe.

Well this is neat. However, I wonder how safe it is and if people who have color blindness will oft for it. Some with color blindness may not even care to see all colors as they are used to living a certain way. I mean, imagine if someone told you that they can do a new procedure that would allow you to see more colors? It would be different, odd and maybe even scary!

My husband is colorblind which is unfortunate for him because his passion is flying airplanes. Usually if you cannot differentiate between green and red, then that you cannot pass the pilots license test. So he may be very interested in this procedure.
