We had a mold problem in our old apartment too. Luckily our apt. management took care of it right away. We also had it in our bathroom. We did not get sick or anything, but it was not a great sight to see everyday. On the other hand, an office my husband was working in a few months back had a mold problem. He came home with a dry cough and would cough every time he went there. I was nervous about it. Luckily his project ended and he left; a few weeks after, the cough stopped.

I think long-term exposure to mold can have a negative affect on your lungs and your health. I would bring it up to the apartment managers attention. You just never know...
Good luck!

Mold is very dangerous when a subject is exposed to it for a long time, it will cause Asthma and other respiratory problems. I had to spend $7000 to have a team of biologists clean the mold in the house i purchased few years ago. It cost more now.

If you want more information, you can contact your local health dept for a free testing.

Oh yes.. mold can be harmful to the lungs and cause breathing and other difficulties.. Please do get your home treated and rid of mold as soon as possible and if you have kids, it would be a good idea to keep them away from the moldy areas, since they'll be more susceptible to infections and resp. problems..
