Default Things That Trigger Migraines

While migraines and their causes vary from person to person, researchers have identified some common triggers.

The National Women's Health Information Center offers this list:

* Too much sleep, or not enough shut-eye.
* Missing meals.
* Overstimulated senses, including noises that are too loud, scents that are too strong, or lights that are too bright.
* Hormonal changes.
* Stress.
* Changes in the weather.
* Drinking red wine or changes in caffeine intake.
* Aspartame, an artificial sweetener.
* Food additives such as tyramine, monosodium glutamate (MSG) or nitrates.

Mine mainly occur when I either can’t get to a meal in time or it is extremely hot outside. The latter leaves me with a migraine for days, or even a week or more at a time. I now take precautionary measures when I go out in the hot sun for long periods by using an umbrella and drinking lots of water.

Food and other allergies can also trigger migraines. My main triggers (besides some of those listed above) are oranges, mold and cigarette smoke. Keeping a journal of your diet and migraines can help identify if an allergy is contributing to your problem.

I usually get really bad headaches if I go too long without eating. I used to get tons of migraines until I realized that I was clenching my teeth a night! I was putting so much pressure on my teeth (there was one that was a little higher than the others so that's what was causing all the damage) that it would cause the migraines. Once I started using a mouth guard, the migraines disappeared.

I can actually get a migraine just out of the blue but usually I get an "aura" first. I have also found that caffeine and chocolate (I assume the caffeine in the chocolate) can trigger a severe migraine as well. I am also having an issue with finding a medication (rather than a heavy narcotic) that helps.

Yes that totally true...
Well i think some common facts are:
First, stress is an obvious and common cause for headaches.
Secondly, watch your diet, as with most health issues what you eat makes a big difference. A balanced healthy diet will make you feel better eating a diet with all the suggested foods from the daily food pyramid is a good idea.
Third, sleep habits, too little sleep can cause headaches, as will too much sleep. It is best to keep regular sleep patterns even on the weekend and holidays. Good sleep habits are in the new daily telling us how important they are for maintaining good health.
