Swine Flu
So a Swine Flu pandemic is iminent say some scientists and people from WHO (World Health Organization) But i have seen on some news sites like the BBC that Swine flu is not as dangerous as first thought? Yet people are dying from it. 2 in the US and a dozen from Mexico. And the weird thing is that its different outside mexico. Some people say its all rubbish its just media making money out of it by scaring people.
Here in UK we have now got 34 cases and i got 2 near me. Downend and Chipping Sodbury. And Downend is over side of Bristol where i live so ....
They are making a vaccine but thats 6months away. And some people saying it might disapear and then come back in the winter Which im not sure. It could just dispear full stop and goverment wasted millions of money on a vaccine.

Many people do think that WHO and other officials are only overreacting on the topic. According to the news, only half of the suspected cases are only positive of having H1N1 virus into their system. If I'm not mistaken, the first one that is affected by this is already cured of the virus.

I think people are freaking out about a virus that isn't that big of a deal. Yes, people have died but it is nothing to completely freak out about. The world is not ending yet. I say work on a vaccine but don't freak out about it. If the news freaks out about it, then people will and that will just screw up the economy even more than it already is. (in the US)

I agree. Our Economy is already screwed up so.....
And i do think media just over reacting and probably someone who has had the H1N1 strain has probably been cured with a course of TamiFlu. But the 2 people who have died from it in the US Are Mexican citizans which of whom have just crossed the border. So since they crossed the border and died people are worrying alot.
The NHS sent out to all British People via post a leaflet about Swine Flu and what to do to prevent and it and what to do if you have it.

The media over reacts to almost everything and because they do, they get more views which is exactly what they want. I have trouble believing the media anymore since it just seems so screwed up.
People are recovering just fine from this virus and only a few die which I am sure are those who have another problem other than the H1N1 virus.
The US hasn't done anything major other than a website but I don't know much about the virus myself I just know it isn't THAT big a deal. Sure, be a look out for it but don't go crazy.

Media definitely screws up everything. They always overreacts and add something to the story. The good thing about this is people in our country, especially the leaders, are very cautious about the people coming in from another country.

Yeah. They start doing screen tests. In the UK they get health officials to go to airports and when a flight lands from any infected country they will get on board before anyone gets off and ask if anyone has flu like symptons and if they do they are taken to gurantine. And all the over passengers are tested to see if they have it or not.

I don't think the US does that, but if they aren't it would be a good idea if they did. Keep it from spreading more than it is now.

The symptoms are fairly similar to the regular Flu. But the difference is, there is a H1N1 virus visible in your blood. These can only be seen when one have undergone a laboratory test.
