Default Natural Diaper Rash Treatment

I wanted to let others know about the best remedy for diaper rashes that I use. First of all, stop using scented wipes and diapers. Switch to natural or unbleached. Next, let the bottom air dry and do not apply diaper rash cream. For comfort, give the baby a warm bath in colloidal oatmeal (the Aveeno Baby kind is best). I swear this clears it up for me in just a few days.

I agree that this is a great natural alternative. I have tried diaper creams and they do work but if you are wanting to do the natural thing, air drying and just getting air to their bottoms is great for the skin and preventing breakdown. So if you can let them run around for a bit without a diaper. Also oatmeal is great for the skin. Another alternative that is natural that I have used in helping with diaper rashes is using corn starch. It helps keep the skin dry and also acts as a barrier to a degree. Another thing that I noticed that letting the skin dry before putting a diaper back on regardless of what is used is beneficial. I had a problem with a specific brand of wipes that tended to be to moist and took forever to dry and if I did not let the bottom dry before I put on the diaper that it would cause irritation.

Thank you for this tip; I will be sure to pass it on to other moms. My son had diaper rash as an infant, and no matter which diaper cream I tried, nothing cleared it up. My pediatrician finally advised me to try a Lotrimin/hydrocortisone combination, which did work. I like the natural idea very much also.

My kids never get a diaper rash anymore. My older daughter's doc told me to stop using wipes except during a poo change. Urine is wicked away from the skin by the diaper fast enough that it doesn't have a chance to irritate and by wiping all you're doing is putting a layer of chemicals down that can mix with the chemicals from the diaper.

The very best rash cream I ever used with my oldest before the doc gave me this trick was called Pink Xav. It healed up anything, even my cuts and scrapes. It's hard to find, but well worth it!

Hi,
my toddler's also never had a rash. However, I do use a thin layer of Vaseline on her bottom and never use wipes, except like you, during poopy time. I've used a zinc oxide cream earlier but since I started using Vaseline, didnt really need it. Also, giving baby's bottom some 'air time' also helps in keeping diaper rash away.

I am glad that I read this. I had stopped using wipes and noticed that my daughter’s rashes wouldn’t come back so quick, but then I thought that she wasn’t getting clean. The poor thing has never had diaper rash until this summer (she is two), and it gets bad. The other week it got so bad she couldn’t stand to have a diaper on her. The doctor called in some cream for her that helped clear it up.
I am definitely going to try the things mentioned on here! Thank you so much.
