male pattern baldness
Propecia is primarily used for the treatment of male pattern baldness (i.e. hair loss known as Androgenetic alopecia that occurs in men only). Propecia is also prescribed as the treatment for symptomatic Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) in men who have enlarged prostate for improving symptoms, reducing the risk of acute urinary retention, and reducing the risk of the requirement of the surgery that includes transurethral resection of the prostate.
It is the DHT (dihydrotestosterone) that is involved in the development of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and hair loss. Propecia prevents the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the man’s body thus preventing both of the problems.
