Default The truth about colds

So this is just what I heard, not sure if it’s true and would like some feedback. Well I've always heard that going outside in the cold doesn't really cause a cold, that the only way to get a cold is through germs and actually you are more prone to get it being indoors because you are sharing germs with others. Well, recently I heard that actually going out in the cold will lower your defenses, thus increasing your chance of catching a cold. So there's some claim to the wives tale?

That's really interesting. In my opinion that's probably the mental aspect of the cold. If you have a "feeling" of getting a cold and you stay inside hoping you won't get sick. You will probably get sick because you've been thinking a lot about the cold and you're kind of jinxing yourself. But if you go outside and not think about the cold then it probably will not happen.

But that might not be the case. I think is also a scientific explanation too.

We get colds when our natural resistance is lowered due to stress. We are all (well about 90% of us at least) born with an immune system that has the ability to fight different germs, bacteria, and viruses, so it is only when our resistance lowers that they can cause colds, etc.. So if the weather is cold enough, and you are out in it long enough that your body perceives it as a stress than it could lower your resistance creating an environment where the "invader" could cause damage.
