Default How to you show your preteen you're boss?

I have never had a problem with my son. He's always been a well mannered kid who never talked back.
He just started middle school and is as tall as me. Because of this (his height) he thinks he can boss me around. He has never been like this before...I know it's because he's getting taller than me so he thinks he can push me around. What do you all do to show your kids that you mean business and that even though they are taller than you, you're still queen (or king) of the house?
I really want to nip this in the bud before it gets bad. He needs to know that he has to show me respect. What can I do? Any advice?

I don't have a preteen myself, but I'm 11 years older than my brother and I remember when he went through this stage. He was so obnoxious in the way he talked to my mother. She used to take away his privileges (phone, computer, going out with friends) as punishment for his smart mouth. He grew out of it eventually!

Well, if he was a good kid growing to this age, you probably have a good base to start with. Just stay firm in your decisions because preteens can smell weakness a mile away and will take advantage of it! He's just trying to stretch his boundaries, and your loving control over him will make him feel secure. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for your replies! I can be weak when it comes to him. He's my only child so he gets all the attention. It just seems that now that he's my height he thinks he can boss me around. I am going to stand my ground and have a talk with him. He needs to know that just because he's going to be taller than me doesn't mean that he can push me around. He is a great kid. I've never had trouble with him before so I think he is just testing me.
