Spinocerebellar Degeneration Disease or Ataxia is a degenerative and progressive genetic disease which affects the the patients motor skills. It is characterized by the progressive incoordination of gait which leads to poor coordination of hands, eyes, speech and other parts of the body. Symptoms includes clumsy movements due to the failure of fine muscle coordination.
Until now, there is no known cure for this kind of disease. Certain medications can only soften the symptoms, not the disease itself, when it goes progressive as the time passes by. The patient will eventually turn out needing a wheelchair and an aid to perform daily tasks.
