Default Preganancy after the age of 40

It is now becoming increasingly evident that more and more women are having baies at a later age. Earlier it was not considered possible, and when it happened, there were many complications involved.
Now however, the doctor's feel that women are healthier and their bodies are able to cope with these pregnancies better.
Precautions have to be taken - and greater supervision by the doctor is needed - but it is possible.

As women reach their thirties, they experience a decline in fertility. Furthermore, complications during pregnancy are more common when women reach age 35. Age-related decline in fertility may be due, in part, to the following:

A decrease in the number and health of the eggs to be ovulated.
Changes in the hormones resulting in altered ovulation.
Fewer number of eggs.
A decrease in sperm counts.
A decrease in the frequency of intercourse.
The presence of other medical and gynecologic conditions, such as endometriosis, which may interfere with conception.

Best age to get pregnant differs from women to women.Biologically it is between 25 to 35.
Pregnancy after 40 years of age is possible but has its own complications. Best thing would be to consult your doctor.

I think that the complication seemed worse in the past as a result of there not being as much documentation of women getting pregnant at that stage in life. There is now more data in regards to women over 40 years old getting pregnant. As a result the number of complications or the severity of the problems being present are decreasing. I do agree that medical technology and the ability to monitor a pregnancy has helped to prevent and the knowlege we have gained over the years is helping to decrease the risks. When my mother was having kids the did very few tests and little monitoring at that time, so when something did go wrong it was a major crisis. I think sometimes today they get a little overly concerned but I can see where it has helped.

I personally would not want to go through pregnancy after the age of 40, but I have known several women who did and had perfectly healthy babies. I was a few weeks shy of 26 when my son was born, which worked well for me.
