Default Mirena IUD

After I had my first child, my doctor suggested Mirena IUD for birth control. I did not realize how great this would be. It can be put in place 6 weeks after you have given birth. When I had it inserted I only had mild cramps.

I am a very busy woman, and I forget to take my daily meds. (Could you imagine forgetting your bc pill and getting pregnant right after you just had a baby?) This was a great thing for me since once it is put in place you don’t have to worry about it for 5 years. Also, I just paid the one time fee instead of monthly co-pays for pills.

Has anyone else had this great of an experience with Mirena?

I've considered trying the Mirena IUD, and I'm glad to hear that you've had a positive experience. I have one child and am not planning on having another any time soon. I plan to ask my gynecologist about Mirena when I have my next appointment. Thanks for the information!

I am glad my information could help! I really think that it is great; the only bad thing is the cramps that I get during my cycle. I would much rather have cramps though instead of a period. Also, I had to pay like $150 up front for the Mirena, and then insurance reimbursed me back. My pills were costing me $20 a month, so that is a huge savings over the 5 years. Let me know how it goes when you talk to your doctor.

Thanks, I will let you know what my doctor says. I agree that $150 is not bad at all, especially if the insurance company pays you back. Do your monthly cycles feel similar to when you were on the Pill? Is the cramping more or less?

Sorry it took me a little bit to get back to you.
I still go through the same cramps, bloating, fatigue, and that feeling that you are going to start your period (you know the one where you want to stick a plunger down there to get it out already)! The symptoms are not as severe to me as before I got it. Also, I only have an actual period once in a blue moon.
